China Inn
About This Spot
Stepping into China Inn on East Main Street feels like entering a small, well-worn neighborhood spot that has quietly earned its place in the community. The modest exterior and humble strip mall setting might suggest simplicity, but inside, there’s a gentle rhythm that invites patience and curiosity. This is a place where time slows a little, not out of stiffness, but out of respect for the one person behind the scenes—the chef-owner—who carefully attends to each order in his galley-style kitchen.
The atmosphere here is unpretentious and intimate, a reminder that some treasures aren’t found in polished décor or flashy menus, but in the steady dedication to craft. The pace can be unhurried, especially on busier nights, reflecting how thoughtfully every plate is prepared and cooked fresh to order. It’s the kind of spot where you settle in and savor the unfolding experience rather than rush through it.
As you wait, the welcoming aromas hint at the balance of flavors at work—from subtle citrus notes that brighten a vegetable chicken marinade to the satisfying crunch of handmade egg rolls. Each dish carries with it a sense of detail and freshness that speaks to the chef’s personal touch, whether it’s a dish brimming with candied orange or the comforting warmth of house fried rice. The menu weaves together traditional favorites with a freshness that stops short of the typical, offering moments of genuine delight with every bite.
China Inn is a quietly loved place by locals who understand that the magic here is in the human moments—the shared anticipation, the personal attention, and the simple joy of everyday food done with care. If you follow the rhythm of this one-man show, you’ll find a rare kind of charm that turns even a simple meal into a small celebration of honest flavor and familiar comfort.

I walked in and he said it would be 10 minutes I didn't wait more than 5. That was awesome! The portion size for the price was good however my orange chicken lacked the spice I expected. That was the only disappointing part of the meal. I expect orange chicken to have more spice and hotness!

When I visited my cousin who recently moved to Merrill, we decided to try out this place. The place looks like it has seen better days, but you know if it's a sketchy stripemall restaurant, you know the food is gonna slap. We ordered our food and waited for a bit, which was fine since there's only one guy running the who thing. We grabbed our food and went back to his place, and oh my god, it slapped so hard. It was the best general tsos and lo mein I have ever had. The guy running the joint is doing magic. Would highly recommend. Great food at a decent price.

The chef pays attention to detail! The best Chinese food I ever ate hands down...we ordered the orange chicken which had candied orange in it. Every single dish tasted different and so fresh. It was cooked right in front of us in the galley style kitchen. The vegetable chicken was so delicious...you could taste the fresh lemon in the marinade! And when I opened the house fried rice I could not believe what a beautiful color it was. I could not say enough good things about the attention to detail. Fyi it's a good idea to call ahead and order over the phone. It is worth the wait.

THIS is the place for your Chinese cravings. Authentic, fresh and delicious every single time. We’re repeat customers easily! Never had a poor experience or meal from here. FAIR WARNING: It is a ONE MAN show back there, owner does all of the cooking and order taking himself. It will be about an hour or so wait on busy nights. Don’t let that turn you off though! It is worth the wait.
